Giving Back to the Community

We spent the morning helping out at the Cancord site of Hamilton Victory Gardens. We helped pick fresh vegetables: green beans, peas and onions, planted beans, watered the vegetable beds and  lay new mulch.

The Victory Gardens is a faith based, volunteer, not-for-profit corporation. The purpose is to develop and grow sustainable gardens, based on Urban Agriculture techniques, throughout the City of Hamilton. The objective is to provide local, organic, fresh produce to Hamilton’s marginalized population through local food banks and hot meal programs. Hamilton Victory Gardens is affiliated with Good Shepherd.

My experience in Canada has been...

My experience in Canada has been very positive. I have enjoyed it a lot, and after the first cultural shock, I felt very good. I recommend this experience to any boy / girl of my age, because the truth is that you learn English and enjoy doing it!-Alvaro G.

My experience in Canada has been great! I met a lot of new people and I think that all of them will be my friends forever. We went to many places around the area and I discovered many interesting places such as Niagara Falls. I also learnt about the culture of Canadian people and their customs. I enjoyed this experience a lot and I think that I will always have good memories of this month in Hamilton!

Well my experience in Canada up to now has been incredible.  Honestly, I didn't expect to have so much fun because we are a small group and in the college there aren't any other groups of people (although some new French people have come today). I think that we couldn't be a better group.  All the people are so kind that I think I will really miss them. Talking about the activities I think that we could have done more but I'm happy with everything because doing one thing or another I know that I will have fun , so in one word AWESOME!

My experience in Canada has been one of the best ones I've ever had. We have been in a lot of different and wonderful places, such as Toronto and Niagara Falls, and we also enjoyed our classes with Tania, the time I've spent with my family... I've also made very good friends who I hope I'll see in Spain one day. I wanna repeat a camp as this one, because it has been really good!-Mikel E.

 

My experience in Canada has been fantastic. The people are very nice with each other. My family was nice but they weren't very active. The classes were interesting. The excursions were a lot of fun. I liked them a lot. In general this experience has been perfect.-Salvador I.

Our Last Update

During this week we did lot of things. On Friday we went to see Niagara Falls.  Niagara Falls was wonderful and big. We went on a boat that took us under the American and the Canadian falls. We didn't do only that but we went as well on some attractions which were scary like the house of terror. On Saturday we had a lot of fun too because we went to see an American Football game, Alquetes (Montreal) vs Tiger Cats (Hamilton). The game was very good because there was a lot of action from the first minute. At the end of the game all the Tiger Cat fans were happy because Hamilton beat Montreal and now they are playing for the first place in the division. On Monday we had lot of fun too. We went to play bowling where we had lot fun. On Tuesday we went to see McMaster University in Hamilton. The University was very big, this is because there are lot of different faculties that you can select to study from. Today (Wednesday) we had another long day. We went to help people in a kind of farm to collect food for people that need it.-Piero P.

 Hi people! Here we are again! Last week was amazing! On Friday we went to Niagara Falls which was lovely! I have never seen something so beautiful like this before! First we saw the views and then we went on a boat which was crowded to see the falls better and in a few minutes we got wet because of the water. After that, we went on a walk to visit the village where there are little shops, haunted houses and restaurants.
On Saturday, my friends and I met in the mall to spend the morning shopping, after that we all went to an American football match which was so fun!
Finally on Sunday, I went to a friend's house where we had a barbeque and swam in the pool, it was fantastic! And that's all! Bye!-Alicia B.

Hi friends! This is our last week in Canada and we are so sad!
I'm going to tell you somethings that we have been doing... On Friday we went to Niagara Falls. It was an incredible experience. We went on a boat to get closer to the falls and we got wet. After that, we went to a street that had shops, haunted houses... It was fun!
On Saturday we saw an American football game: Tiger cats against Montreal. Tiger Cats won!
This week on Tuesday we went to McMaster University and we saw the different buildings related with health, sports...
Today we helped at Victory Gardens. It's a place where people collect vegetables for poor people. It was a different experience and after that we did an exam.
We are doing a lot of things and in a few days we will back to home...

This has been our last week in Canada. On Friday we went to Niagara Falls. They are incredible, we went on a boat and we were next to the Falls. It was like a shower but it was one of my best experiences in my life. The city is also very nice. On Saturday we went to the Tiger Cats Stadium to watch a match.  Yesterday we went to McMaster University. The best part for me was the medicine part. In the afternoon we went to the bowling, I lost but it was nice.-Sergi M.

My last week was so fun! We went to Niagara Falls. It was wonderful and beautiful. On Saturday we went to see a Tiger Cats match. They won against Montreal. On Monday we went bowling, it was funny.  Today we went to Victory Gardens, for me it was the best thing we have done because we planted vegetables to help people who need them. Hi friends! The last week has been amazing! On Friday we went to Niagara Falls, it was awesome, a great experience that I will never forget! It was a very nice day. I had fun with my friends taking photos. On Saturday we went to see a game of American Football of the Tiger Cats, which is the team from Hamilton. The game was interesting and different to other sports that I know. We enjoyed it a lot and finally the Ti-Cats won the match! Another day in the week we went to karaoke at Mohawk with other students, it was great because there were Indian people dancing and they were very funny! On Monday, we went to play bowling, and it was good although my team lost the competition.  We took many photos there and we laughed a lot! Finally, yesterday we went to visit the University of Hamilton, it's name is McMaster University, it was huge and we saw the prices of some of the courses and it's also very expensive, but anyway, the campus and the buildings are great.-Ana J.

The last week here has been wonderful in Canada!
On Friday, we went to Niagara Falls, where we had a really good time seeing the falls very near in the boat and, after that, in the haunted house in which we entered. It was very very frightening. On Saturday we went to the Tiger Cat's match, but we didn't see the whole match. On Monday we went bowling in the evening, and we had a good time there. On Tuesday we went to McMaster University, which is Hamilton's university. It's big, as all the universities, and it has a sports centre which is really good to spend there all the afternoon after classes! And today we have been in Victory Gardens before doing the exam, and we have helped a lot there.-Mikel E.

 

On Friday I went to Niagara Falls, they are incredible and very fun. The attractions are very expensive and scary! With the raincoat I didn't get wet a lot. On Saturday I went to see the Tiger Cats, there were cheerleaders and they danced very well. The Tiger Cats won!  On Monday I went bowling, it was very fun but the ball was very small. On Tuesday I went to McMaster, it is a very big university, it has a swimming pool, athletic tracks... It was amazing! I want to study there! On Wednesday I went to Victory Gardens, we collected vegetables for the people that need them. It was very fun because we collected green peas, onions, and we watered the plants! -María T.

Hi everyone! This last week we did many things, above all I have to highlight Niagara Falls and the Tiger Cats game. Last Friday we went to Niagara Falls, we started the day as we usually do, meeting at Mohawk college. This time we had to take 3 buses to arrive to the famous falls but I have to admit that it was worth it all. As soon as we arrived to the place we were astonished. Apart from the casinos and all the amusing things that we could see and do, we were shocked by the beauty of the place. After all the day, without a doubt the best was when we were on the boat approaching the falls. We all ended up wet although they gave us raincoats.  The next day we went to the Tiger Cats game.  I have to admit that it was more exciting than the baseball game also because the people are more enthusiastic than in baseball. We were all excited about watching American football because in Spain for instance we don't have it. At the end of the day we went back home finishing up a great evening!-Rebecca A.

 

Last week we went to Niagara Falls. It was fantastic. They are very big. On Saturday we went to see an American football game, the Tiger Cats. It was interesting because i have never watched an American football game. On Monday evening we went to a bowling. it was horrible.  Yesterday we went to McMaster University. I liked it a lot, but it is very expensive. It has a very good gym.-Salvador I.

On Wednesday we had a karaoke at school and then like it was  family day, I stayed all day after dinner with them. On Thursday it was raining so we went into a mall and we ate some different deserts (they were so delicious). On Friday we went to Niagara Falls and it was amazing because I've never seen anything like that before and I enjoyed it a lot. On Saturday we went to a Tiger Cats (Hamilton) match and they won 39-24 against Montreal. On Sunday I went to church and then I stayed all day at home because it was raining a lot. On Monday we went bowling and we had a lot of fun because the balls were quite different to the normal ones. On Tuesday we went to McMaster University and we saw it and it was interesting.-Inaki D.

Dear readers, this is the last time I'm writing to you, and I am a bit sad. This last week, we did many things. We went to the Niagara Falls. I thought they were going to be more spectacular, but, they were OK. On Saturday some of us went to Lime Ridge Mall, near Iturritxa' s home. In the evening we went to a Tiger-Cats game, versus Montreal, and we won. Mikel and me also created some songs, like "I wanna be a Tiger-Cat". On Sunday, we went to church and then family day. Last Monday we had class and after that we went bowling, and yesterday, we went to McMaster University. That's all, thanks for reading and bye.-Alvaro J.
